The final selection and initial payment for a 5-acre parcel for the new church was made early September, 1956. Later the same month, arrangements were completed with a local Optimist Club for the rental of their building at 618 East First Street for temporary church use.
October 7, 1956 was a memorable event for the new congregation for it was the day of the first service. Early in 1957, plans for a new building were presented by the Mission Board to the congregation for local input and final approval, and a ground breaking ceremony was scheduled for May 1957. Reverend Daniel W. Sander, first full time pastor for the congregation arrived in June 1957. Dedication of the new worship center was on September 29, with the Rev. Doctor Norman A. Menter, President of Michigan District officiating. |
